Endless Winter?

hortsman

It seems to me like every year the snowboard season gets shorter and shorter?  Here we are at the end of March, local resorts are already closing, the season is pretty much over and I still feel like I’m just hitting my stride.  The same thing happens every year…  My season will start in late October (on a good year) or early November, I  get out and make a few turns before Thanksgiving, knock the rust off and I’m feeling pretty good.  Then December rolls in… holiday shopping, parties, family, Christmas, before you know it, it’s New Year’s and January…  But that’s alright because you still have 3 months of shredding ahead of you.  Then you wake up one morning, the flowers are blooming, the snows are melting and that’s it… another season is in the rear view.

So what can you do when you feel like you still have more to offer but Mother Nature is pulling your plug?  Do what thousands of shreds, young and old, have done before you.  Pack those bags and follow the endless winter.  From late season park sessions at Mammoth and the summer camps of Mt. Hood and Whistler, to the full on winters of Agentina, Chile and New Zealand.  For those of you with the desire and the funds to do so, turns are there to be made well into the last days of our North American summers.

This summer I will be returning to the Whistler Summer Snowboard Camp in June for the adult session.  (Check out the blog for my daily camp report “Tales of a 30 Year Old Summer Camper”)  It’s been 5 years since I’ve gotten my summer shred on and I can’t wait to see if I can teach this old dog some new tricks (and knock back a few Kokanees and Tough Guy shots).  Look for more information on summer snowboarding options to follow, but for now check out these sites if you want to get your summer shred on:

Whistler: Whistler Summer Snowboard Camp

Mount Hood: Windells

South America: South American Snow Sessions

New Zealand: Cardrona, Treble Cone, Snow Park, NZ
