Shiloh Black/Charcoal - JP Walker Signature Colorway

Thirty Two is in the second year of their outerwear line and they’ve been turning heads this season with their bold  colorways and designs.  The Shiloh is new for this year and is one of two technical shells they are offering.  The Shiloh is a great lightweight shell that pairs well with a hoodie or fleece on colder days or can stand alone in the spring or on warmer days.  It offers 8K/5K waterproofing and breathability, mesh-lined pit zips, lycra wrist gaitors and a snap-away powder skirt. 

 There’s not too many bells and whistles here, just plain simple style and functionality.  Pros include; a well thought out storm collar and premium snag-free zippers.  Cons are that the multimedia pocket is slightly small for a standard iPod and sits awkwardly high on the chest.  Also the Shiloh sizes on the large side (not surprising given the Thrity Two team aesthetic), I had to size down from a Large to a Medium for a more standard fit.  All in all the Shiloh is a solid piece of outerwear for those who aren’t afraid to stand out in a crowd.

The K2 Darko BCs may just be the world’s best snowboarding boot!  Now, I know that’s a bold statement but that’s just how strongly I feel about these boots.  The Darko BCs (Boa® CONDA) are a medium-stiff flexing freestlye snowboarding boot.  What sets the Darkos apart from other freestyle boots are those two little letters at the end of their name.  K2 Boa® CONDA is an exclusive internal harness system that allows you to tighten the liners of your boots without the need to unlace the outer boot shell.  The Darkos are the only boots that pair BC technology with traditional external lacing, giving you the best of both worlds.  You can adjust and tighten the external laces to your liking and literally dial in the internal liners and make adjustments on the fly, all without ever having to unlace your boots.  Internally, the Darkos make use of K2′sINTUITION™ PRO-FOAM 3D liners for precision fit right out of the box and K2′s low-profile HARSHMELLOW soles for increased board feel and dampening.  Simply put the Darkos are a kick ass snowoboarding boot. 

Here’s a breakdown of the pros and cons:

Props:

• Super lightweight
• Comfy as kitten slippers
• Felt great right out of the box – no breaking in needed
• On-the-fly-adjustment.  Plus I didn’t have to re-tighten my laces all day!
• Radtastic 80s Hot Dog’n inspired design

Knocks:

• Slightly less stiff than I am used to (but I’m not sure that’s a bad thing)
• When pressing or really leaning into the boots I could feel the boa mechanism against my shins slightly

If you’re looking for new shred kicks this season you should definitely give the Darkos a look.

Overview:

The Salomon Salvatore Sanchez is the reverse camber version of their popular Sanchez board.  The Salvatore Sanchez is a fun lightweight freestyle board with a very loose “skatey” feel.  The Salvatore is a true twin tip sporting Salomon’s fun and snappy Aspen Light Core and rubber dampening pads to help smooth out the bumps.  Retailing at $350 the Salvatore brings a lot of tech to the table for not a lot of cheese.

Props:

No surprises here, as a soft flexing reverse cambered freestyle board, the Salvatore really shines off the snow.  On metal, wood or plastic the Salvatore will have you spinning and sliding like a video star.

Knocks:

Like most reverse cambers I’ve ridden the Salvatore has a noticable lack of pop on ollies.  I also found the Salvatore to be a little too “loose” for my liking.  I had a hard time getting this board on edge when I needed to and sometimes felt downright out of control. 

Bottom Line:

The Salvatore is a fun playful board best suited to park rail and box sessions or urban rail assaults.  I’d have a hard time recommending this board as your go-to do-it-all everyday ride.
